very annoying please help.
both our mini clients (C31-700) keep losing connection with Genie (HR 34-700). We can't see any programing or recording with out constant interruptions.
directv expander- watch out
I recently purchased an external hard drive as recommended for use with the current Genie HD DVR receiver with the expectation that I would have expanded recording capability since the internal hard drive was approaching 95% full. However upon installation I was annoyed to see that the contents of the internal hard drive were no longer accessible. To me expanding the internal hard drive capacity implies one should have access to the content stored on that drive just no longer being able to record to the internal drive. Losing the ability to access internal drive contents while an external drive is connected defeats the whole purpose of the expander external drive. In my mind Directv needs to update their software to correct this deficiency - as it stands now I'm out $100 for the external drive that I don't need and am a rather unhappy customer.
audio drops out on genie hr44
I've recently been losing audio from my Genie (HR44) to my home theater system (Denon AVR3200). I've had this setup for awhile now so this is a new occurrence. When I turn everything on, all is well. But if I change channels on the genie or pause the genie the audio is gone and won't come back on unless I turn off the Denon and turn it back on in which case the audio is then fine. If I watch TV and use the tv speakers I have no issues. Any help on this is appreciated.
Fyi, the connection between the Genie and Denon is fiberoptic.
Double Play and ESPN issue
Over the last couple weeks there's been a problem with Double Play function IF on a ESPN channel. When I have DP set up as normal and I attempt to switch from any ESPN channel to another channel it won't work until I hit the EXIT button. I've made a number of calls to DirecTV in figuring this out and I'm now pretty sure this is a Directv software issue. It occurs on all of my DVR's (HR20, HR21, HR24) and D even sent me a replacement HR24 which didn't fix this problem. I also have a hunch this has something to do with the RED 'Launch Menu' button that showed up about the same time the World Cup games started.
I hope this msg helps Directv get this issue resolved before the start of football season. That's when Double Play is the most useful.
Stars on Program to be Recorded
I have recently been seeing a star beside some programs to be recorded in my To Do List. I think it might have something to do with programs found when I set up a "Season Record" task. I follow Cycling and programs show up on various channels. In the past, I have had to set up 3 or more series to be recorded, i.e., a different series for each channel.
Recently, I saw an option to "Record Season" (or something like that) which will find programs from different channels. Does the star mean it was found by a system search for an episode?
Thanks
HDMI 2.0
When is HDMI 2.0 coming to a Directv receiver?
Help! All my episodes play without my approval/permission!
I don't know. Maybe I'm the only guy in the world who falls asleep in front of the TV. But I don't think so.
This new Episode thing is great, in most ways. But I can't help wonder if they did ANY real-world testing on the "feature" that automatically plays the next episode in the series - WHETHER YOU WANT IT TO OR NOT!
As it is now, I watch a show. If I fall asleep, the next 8-16 episodes play automatically. So when I look on my list, they all show as being viewed. Totally not helpful! There needs to be a setting to turn this "feature" off. There's almost NEVER a time in my life when I will purposefully watch more than about TWO episodes of a particular show in a row.
Do NORMAL people watch episode after episode of the same show, one after another regularly? I'm not talking about that once-in-a-blue-moon instance where you need to get caught up or something. I mean in the normal course of events! If there has to be a default, it should be to NOT show the next episode, not to just go on showing episode after episode until the cows come home.
Okay, Vent Mode Off. Sorry. I couldn't find any "feedback" or "suggestion" link anywhere on the DirecTV site. So my only recourse is to come to the forums and see if maybe I really AM the only person in the world who feels this was a terrible design decision.
Comments? Suggestions (other than throwing it through a window)? Or maybe there's a setting somewhere that I've somehow overlooked in the several hours I've spent going through the endless menus? Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks.
Movie didn't finish recording
I have a HR44/200 dvr. I recorded a show on UFC and the entire show didn't record? I recorded 3 hrs and 30 minutes and then it shut off. Any suggestions on what happened. I turned my dvr and tv off prior to the show playing. Do you need to leave TV and DVR on to get full recording?
Show Didn't Record ANY Episodes
So a while back, when I first heard about it, I set the DVR to record the Marvel's Agent Carter mini-series. Set it and forget it, right? I figured it'd show up on the list when it recorded.
Well guess what? It did NOT record it, even though when I went back to look at the settings, it said it would. And now, the series is over. So if I want to see it anytime soon, I'll either have to watch it in a ****** browser screen or pay some service for it (Amazon has it for $2.99 per episode).
The more I learn about the recent "upgrades", the more disappointed I am in DirecTV's "product testing" protocols. Prior to this I had fair confidence that if I told it to record, it would. Now I'll be re-checking everything manually. WHAT A HASSLE!
But hey, at least all that checking made me realize I wasn't using the premium channels I was paying for, so I'll be cancelling those now. Just think, if DirecTV hadn't screwed up, they'd still be getting extra money from me every month! THANKS DIRECTV! Of course, it'll take a few months of savings to make up for the two effin' hours I just wasted trying to get these episodes it was supposed to record, plus all the time I'll be wasting second-guessing this bug-filled software "upgrade".
Cable's starting to look better and better...
Directv H44-700 receiver takes down home Internet service
I have DSL service (3Mbps down) provided by the local telephone company, Frontier. I have just assumed over the past few years that the service was flaky, experiencing drops in the service at seemingly peak usage times during the day. This was usually fixed by a reboot of the DSL router. About ten days ago, we not only lost Internet service, but our phone service also was down. After calling Frontier to come out, they determined the problem was inside our home. Service in the home was restored once I disconnected all cables from the DSL modem and disconnected the phone line from the Directv reciever. I then rewired the telephone jack leading to the DSL modem to ensure connectivity and proceeded to experiment plugging and unplugging every network connection in our home. The results of the experiments were that when the Ethernet connection on the Directv receiver was attached, after 20 to 25 minutes, Internet service to all devices on the DSL modem was not available. (Wireless and wired). This was not experienced with any other connection in the home (wired or wireless). The receiver has not been connected to our DSL modem since this time and our Internet service has not dropped once since.
My question is whether anyone else has experienced this problem? Perhaps we need more bandwidth? Perhaps our receiver is flooding the DSL modem/router with requests that freeze it up?
Changing/moving DVRs
I currently have a H24-100 hooked up to my main tv in the living room. I want to move this to another room. I am also eligible for a free upgrade from Direct TV and was hoping to get the new DVR that can record 5 shows at once.
My question is - If I move the H24 to the other room, would I be able to watch what is currently recorded on it on the new DVR ( I believe it is the Genie?) that will be placed in the living room and vice versa?
Also - would I need anything special to accomplish this? The H24 is currently hooked up to the internet via a wireless connection.
Will a tech need to come out to hook up the new DVR or can I do a self install?
New Genie with Low Volume
I just had a Genie installed last Friday and while the DVR and service is far-and-away better than Cox Cable here in Las Vegas, the audio is giving me challenges.
After receiving unsatisfactory volume with first the TV speakers on maximum volume, and then a standalone 100W sound bar on maximum, I went out and purchased a 1000W home theater system, with only mediocre improvement. I have tried two wiring configurations:
1. Genie HDMI to TV. TV Optical to HTS.
2. Genie HDMI to TV. Genie optical to HTS.
World Cup Soccer has been difficult to hear from my recliner just 8 feet from the speakers, even with the HTS on maximum volume (100)!!
Playing regular audio such as FM radio on the HTS is clear and the maximum volume is deafening. I do realize that stereo is going to sound louder because the 5.1 mix has to divide power between all the channels, so I performed additional testing.
I plugged in my PS3 with surround sound enabled in both the configurations listed above, and in both scenarios, the volume is equally deafening. It is comfortable on volume 30 and the surround sound is working. I verified in the only way I really know how: by using the Grand Theft Auto game and standing on a street, I can hear a car approach from the rear speakers, drive past, and proceed to the front speakers first on left and then on the right as the vehicle passes. I also tried the PS3 with the sound bar and TV speakers and while not as clear as the HTS, the volume from both is considerably higher than the Genie. Even the plain TV speakers sound too loud with the PS3 on 40-50 volume while the Genie at 100 isn't loud enough.
So I plug my Genie back in and all the channels are ridiculously low on the volume 30 that was enjoyable with the PS3. You can't distinguish a single spoken word from just 8 feet away. Turning the HTS to maximum volume 100, the volume can be heard, but nearly any other noise is very distracting and overpowering, such as the ice maker on the fridge, or someone opening the sliding glass door. I would compare this 1000W system on maximum volume with the Genie to watching a movie on my computer and using my tiny non-amplified computer speakers.
I have scoured the forums and even called tech support who suggested a service call only 36 hours after installation. There is plenty of advice saying check the cables, which are also brand new, and the same cables I used with success on the PS3. I tried turning OFF 5.1 in the Audio settings on the Genie, with zero improvement in volume. I tried a SD channel and while it is slightly louder, it still doesn't come close to the PS3 on 5.1. Besides, I didn't buy an expensive TV, HTS and Genie service to watch SD so to me the SD volume is rather irrelevant anyway. At the suggestion of tech support, I turned Sound Effects to off, low, medium and high, all with no change in volume.
I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Do I need another amp on top of my brand new HTS? Seems like overkill since I have already proven the system is easily capable of producing far louder sound than I will ever use. I have seen lots of similar questions posted, so I know I am not alone, but with no working solutions posted here, I am curious if others have solved this problem by throwing money and equipment at it. I don't mind spending the money and adding gear, but only if it works, I'm not interested in stacking more gear for only minor improvement as I just did after wiring an entire HTS with ceiling mounted speakers, etc.
How can I hook up caller ID with no phone line?
Hi,
I have a Genie HR 44. There is no phone jack near my receiver. Is there an alternate way to utilize caller id other than a hard wire phone line? I DO have a landline and caller ID...
HR21-200 sometimes recorded show is missing in playlist
A few times over the past few months, a show that was automatically recorded from my series manager does not show up in my playlist. This has happened maybe 3 times, and to a different show each time (last one was the season premier of Black Sails). When I look in the History I see that the program is labeled as "Recorded" and I am able to watch it successfully from the History list. I have 60-70% space available. I don't think "resetting" the box is the answer because 1, it's very infrequent, and 2, it went through a power failure just the other day. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Any ideas how to prevent it?
How can I keep from losing my time shifted content channel is accidently changed.
I used to have Dish Network. When I had time shifted a channel and I tried to change channels, it would warn me and require a response. With my DirecTV system, it is terribly disheartening to have time shifted an hour of programming and then accidently hit the channel up on the remote and lose everything. Is there any way to make the system ask for verification before you dump all of the time shifted content?
HD DVR HR-22 Black out and audio muting
I have the hd dvr hr-22. While watching recorded shows the picture blacks out or the audio mutes or both or the picture start to pixelate. I am not sure if it is happening on the shows I recorded 6 months ago as I have not checked that. Over the past 4 or 5 weeks the recent recordings are showing this problem Is there a solution for it? What can you suggest to fix this?

I can see where I can go to my Playlist - but there's only a couple of things on it……..where's the rest of my items from my Playlist?
Can't change recording time on-the-fly...
I set my DVR to auto record all new The Black List. It was scheduled from 10:15-11:15 today. But the Superbowl ended late so my show didn't start until 10:40. I couldn't extend my recording for another 30 minutes since at 10:40, my recording was already started. This is really ****. I was able to change recording time on-the-fly with Dish DVR 5 years ago before I switched to DirecTV. This is the HR-24/500. I've confirmed it can't be done from calling tech support.
Group Play on different DVRs
Group Play on the DVR that has the group starts from the oldest and goes to the newest. When stopped along the way, a play on the group resumes where it was. It works as one would hope. When a group play is done on a group that is on a different DVR it works similarly except when stopped along the way it always starts over. That makes it useless for a large group that can’t be watched in one sitting. I got a DVD just for recording groups with lots of episodes that I could just let play at night. If it starts over every time I could never get to the end and playing one at a time and keeping up just isn’t acceptable.
It is what it is and I guess this is a gripe a request for a software resolution, not a question. I would appreciate if one of you Directv guys could put it on the list and let me know if it is every fixed.
Genie only records 2 shows
I have a the new Genie DVR, I am supposed to be able to record 5 shows at once, and I am only able to record 2 at once, and one of them has to be on the channel (like the old DVR's). I have had the service since August, and it has never let me do it. Is there anything I can do to fix it?
